Developments at Stroud Valley Scouting Centre

New refurbishment project

Scouting Centre Developments

Over the last few years, Stroud Valley Scouting Group Committee has been looking at the future of the group and in particular the buildings on our site in Chapel Street / Hollow Lane. We have looked at opportunities for funding a new build or a refurbishment of our main centre, but at the moment costs are too high and funding is difficult to come by.

In 2022, we started to look at the possibility of refurbishing the Grade 2 listed Coach House, which is visible from the entrance on Hollow Lane. This building has been out of use for many years. Our plan is to bring the building back into community use as a meeting or event space. The building needs complete refurbishment from roof to floor, including making the building water tight, new electrics, kitchen and bathroom facilities, flooring, walls and windows, making it usable and securing its future.

In 2023, we were awarded a grant of £87k from Severn Trent Community Fund to support this scheme, and £5k from the Bernard Sunley Charitable Trust.

In January 2024, our contractors were finally able to get on site and start the renovation.

We currently have scaffolding up around the site. The roof has been replaced, the roof lights are now in and a new staircase is in place.

Below are images of the refurbishment works in progress.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
