Beavers (ages 6–8)

Beavers is for girls and boys aged 6–8 who love to explore, make friends and try new things in a safe, fun environment.

It’s often the first step into Scouting, so we focus on building confidence, kindness and curiosity through games, activities and mini-adventures.

What do Beavers do?

Each term, our programme is packed with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. A typical term might include:

  • Den building and outdoor games
  • Crafts, cooking and simple science experiments
  • Learning new skills like first aid and navigation
  • Visits and visitors from the local community
  • Nights away, sleepovers and fun day trips
  • Working towards activity badges and Challenge Awards

Beavers can earn a wide range of badges and awards, including the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award, by joining in, trying their best and having fun.

When and where we meet

  • Day: Wednesday
  • Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Place: Stroud Valley Scout & Community Centre, Chapel Street, Stroud

If you’re not sure whether Beavers is right for your child, you’re very welcome to get in touch and ask questions before joining the waiting list.

Costs, uniform and support

We work hard to keep Scouting affordable and accessible for all families.

  • Subs and payments: Subs help cover things like activity materials, badges and hall costs.
  • Uniform: Beavers usually wear a Beaver jumper or sweatshirt, along with our group necker.
  • Keeping it affordable: If cost is ever a barrier — for subs, camps or events — please talk to us in confidence.

Full details about subs, how to pay, uniform and the financial support we can offer are on our Parent Information page.

Moving on to Cubs

When Beavers turn 8 (or are nearly 8), they get ready to move up to Cubs (8–10½ years).

We help make this a smooth, exciting step — with visits to Cubs, joint activities and plenty of time to ask questions and get to know the new section.

Ready to join Beavers?
