Scouts is for young people aged 10½–14 who are ready for bigger adventures, more independence and new challenges with friends.
They build skills for life through outdoor activities, camps, trips and projects that help them grow in confidence, resilience and leadership.
Scouts get the chance to try a huge range of activities, indoors and outdoors. Over the year, the programme might include:
Scouts can earn a wide range of badges and awards, including the Chief Scout’s Gold Award, by taking part, supporting others and trying their best.
Young people usually join Scouts from Cubs or from our waiting list. If your child is new to Scouting, we’ll help them settle in and get to know the troop.
We want Scouts to be open and accessible to as many young people as possible.
Full details about subs, how to pay, uniform and the financial support we can offer are on our Parent Information page.
When Scouts reach 14 (or are nearly 14), they get ready to move up to Explorers (14–18 years).
We help make this an exciting next step — with joint activities, visits to Explorer units and time to find out what’s on offer locally.
If you’d like to add your child to the waiting list or find out about spaces in Scouts, please use our online Join & Volunteer form.
