Inspiring 9-Year-Old Cub Awarded Commissioner’s Commendation for Charity Fundraising
Stroud Valley Cub Pack Celebrates Remarkable Fundraising Achievement by 9-Year-Old Reginald

Stroud Valley Scout Group is proud to celebrate the recent reopening of our Cub Pack, along with the inspiring efforts of one of our young members, 9-year-old Reginald, who has shown what it means to live by the Scout Promise and Values.
In memory of his nanny Dot, who was cared for at Sue Ryder’s Leckhampton Court Hospice and who also passed away there, Reginald chose to grow his hair for more than six months to raise money in her honour. Reginald and his family spent the last three days of her life at the hospice, where the staff made an incredibly difficult time into something gentle, special, and positive for him. His family hopes that by sharing this experience, it will help other children talk openly about loss and reduce the stigma around death.
Through his determination and kindness, he has already raised over £1,000, with the total expected to reach around £2,000. This would be impressive for anyone, but is especially remarkable for someone of his age.
By thinking of others, taking meaningful action, and following through with commitment, Reginald has demonstrated the spirit of Scouting and shown how young people can make a real difference.

In recognition of his efforts, Reginald was awarded his Community Impact Stage 2 Badge. To help mark the occasion, the District Lead for Stroud & Tetbury visited the Cub meeting to present the award in person.
“This is fantastic to see from a Cub at Stroud Valley. Reginald’s hard work and compassion are truly inspiring — not only to other young people, but to adults across the district as well. This is a wonderful milestone for both Reginald and the newly reopened Cub Pack.”
There was also a special surprise: the County Lead of the Gloucestershire Scout Council awarded Reginald the Commissioner’s Commendation Award. This honour is given at the Commissioner’s discretion to recognise individuals who have gone above and beyond in their service.
The award consists of a purple knot emblem, accompanied by a certificate.

This is a significant moment for both Reginald and the wider Stroud Valley Scout community. As our Cub Pack begins this new chapter, his example sets a positive tone for the future — one rooted in kindness, service, and making a difference.
Congratulations, Reginald — your nanny Dot would be very proud, and so are we.
