Volunteers Needed to Help Open Our New Squirrel Drey

Squirrels with a leader outside at Stroud Valley Scouts

We’re excited to share that Stroud Valley Scouts has reached a major milestone in our plans to open a new Squirrel Drey. After a lot of hard work and planning, we have now successfully found a Team Lead to help bring Squirrels to our group.

Squirrels is the newest section in Scouting, designed for young people aged 4–6. It focuses on fun, friendship, and early skill development through games, activities, and exploration, giving young people a positive introduction to Scouting.

With a Team Lead now in place, the final step before we can open our Squirrel Drey is building a small team of adult volunteers to help run the section. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved right from the beginning and help shape something new for families in the Stroud area.

You don’t need any previous Scouting experience to help. We’re looking for adults who can support sessions in a way that fits around their lives — whether that’s helping regularly, occasionally, or in a more flexible support role. You’ll be part of a supportive team, with guidance from the Team Lead and the wider Stroud Valley Scouts leadership team.

Volunteering with Squirrels can suit people at many stages of life. Some volunteers may be parents looking to help alongside family commitments, others may be working full-time and able to offer limited time, and some may be partly or fully retired and keen to give back to the community. Every contribution helps make Squirrels possible.

Opening a Squirrel Drey will allow more young people to start their Scouting journey earlier and help us meet growing demand from local families. With the right team in place, we can offer a safe, welcoming, and fun environment that sets young people up for a lifelong love of Scouting.

If you’re interested in helping us take this final step and open our Squirrel Drey, we’d love to hear from you.
