Group celebrates after receiving £87k from the Severn Trent Community Fund

Stroud Valley Scout Group is celebrating after being awarded £87k in funding from the Severn Trent Community Fund to support the refurbishment of the grade 2 listed Coach House in Hollow Lane. The group, based in Chapel Street, Stroud, will use the cash to bring the Coach House back into community use.

The new funding from the Severn Trent Community Fund, which awards grants to new projects improving community wellbeing through three key themes – people, places and environment – means the Scout Group will be able to completely refurbish the Coach House and make it available for use by community groups. Stroud Valley Scout Group already hires out its centre to a variety of community organisations and individuals, when it’s not in use supporting young people through scouting.

John Jones, Group Scout Leader, says: “We’re delighted that the Severn Trent Community Fund has recognised our work in this way. We’re thankful to the Severn Trent Customer Panel for selecting us for funding so that we’ll be able to bring this lovely listed building back into use. This is important because it supports part of the heritage of Stroud, as well as making available a new community space.

“The hard work starts now as we develop our plans and embark on the refurbishment project, to make this a sustainable community venue.”
